FROM READING TO LISTENING by Sr. Lillian DeLorme

Everyone loves a story! Whenever a speaker begins, "once upon a time," he or she has everyone’s attention. Jesus was a master storyteller. We are people who listen to his story. We need to listen and listen and listen until the story becomes our own, until we know it so well it is our life.

Let us begin to reclaim our heritage by listening to the lector proclaim God’s story rather than relying on the printed word in the missal. Let us give the story teller our whole-hearted attention.
