Saint John the Baptist's Festival day is the June 24th but many places
celebrate the Vigil on June 23rd.
Living and preaching in the desert he foretold the coming of Jesus. Quoted: 'I
baptize you with water, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and
with fire'.
