We would like to introduce ourselves. We are Joe and Charlene Raygada and we
are the Coordinators for the FOCCUS Program at The Church of the Good Shepherd.
FOCCUS is part of your Pre-Cana process (but does not take the place of Pre-Cana).
It is preferred that it is completed prior to the Pre-Cana session.
To give you a brief background, FOCCUS stands for Facilitating Open Couple
Communication, Understanding & Study. The FOCCUS program is an
instrument for marriage preparation involving the engaged couple completing a
FOCCUS inventory consisting of approximately 156 questions. The statement
sometimes referred to as a “Pre-Marital Inventory” provides a vehicle for
the engaged couple to reflect upon what they think and feel about the issues
important in a marriage and then discuss those issues between themselves and
with their sponsor couple. This process is designed to help target those
topics you need and want to talk about as a couple. An instrument such as
FOCCUS can help the engaged couple, together with the guidance with a trained
sponsor couple, identify the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship.
FOCCUS also helps couples identify areas of agreement and disagreement, both
with each other and with Church teachings.
We believe that all couples will benefit from beginning the process of Marriage
preparation with a premarital inventory such as FOCCUS. We have been using
the FOCCUS inventory process since June 1998. The diocese of Rockville
Centre has strongly urged that all parishes use this FOCCUS process. |
